Orthopaedic Surgery Outcome Data from The National Joint Registry

Mr Lim’s outcome data for orthopaedic operations and procedures is taken from the NJR report that was published in November 2017.  This data is predominantly focused on hip and knee replacements.

The National Joint Registry (NJR) was set up by the Department of Health and Welsh Government in 2002 to collect information on all hip, knee, ankle, elbow and shoulder replacement operations, to monitor the performance of joint replacement implants and the effectiveness of different types of surgery, improving clinical standards and benefiting patients, clinicians and the orthopaedic sector as a whole. http://www.njrcentre.org.uk

Hip replacement outcomes as shown in the following National Joint Registry (NJR) 2017 report for Mr Lim

Mr Lim has performed more than 1000 hip replacements.

It is expected that 19 would have needed a revision (further surgery) by now but only 9  have needed revision.  This data has been collected nationally from all English hospitals so that revisions performed at other hospitals are also accounted for.

Mr Lim’s quality and outcome measures are within the “expected range” and mostly closer to the ‘better than expected’ line as illustrated in the diagram below.

(Note that only 1 in 1000 surgeons will be in the better than expected range).
